Many dogs, puppies, cats and kittens come through our doors as strays, but we also receive owner surrenders and pets that are not reclaimed by their owners. We also take in many other pets including rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils (and other pocket pets), iguanas and other reptiles, all kinds of birds, and ferrets are also available at the Shelter from time to time. Unclaimed animals and animals given up by their owners are evaluated for adoption. Prospective pet owners are interviewed to assure that the lifestyles and needs of the people and the animal will be compatible.

The Brazos Animal Shelter provides humane sheltering and care for stray and unwanted animals. Our varied services are designed to promote responsible pet ownership and to enhance the quality of life for the people and animals in our community.

Our mission is to:

* Enhance the human-animal bond
* Protect the health and safety of the public

* Protect the health, safety, and well-being of animals
* Act as advocates for general animal welfare
